Earlier today, Caitlin Clark was honored as both the Rookie of the Month and Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August. Although this was her third time being named ROTM, she made history as the only rookie in WNBA history to earn Player of the Month. Hours later, she continued to make history on the court.
In July, at an away game against the NY Liberty, Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve a triple-double (19 PTS/12 REB/13 AST). In tonight’s win against the LA Sparks (93-86), Clark recorded her 2nd WNBA triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Clark is one of four players who have recorded triple-doubles this season. The other three players are Alyssa Thomas (Connecticut Sun), Layshia Clarendon (LA Sparks), and Tina Charles (Atlanta Dream). However, with two each, Clark and Thomas are the only two who have recorded multiple triple-doubles this season. Thomas is currently the all-time leader in WNBA triple-doubles (13 total).

Clark also made her 100th 3-pointer tonight and, not only is she the first WNBA rookie to ever do so, she’s the first player this season to reach this stat. With the addition of her 4 3-pointers, her total number of 3-pointers made is up to 102. Before tonight’s game, Clark was second in the league for 3-pointers made. She trailed behind Arike Ogunbowale of the Dallas Wings (98 3PM), whose average is only 0.1 higher than Clark’s.
Tonight’s historic victory comes a day after the WNBA announced that the Indiana Fever secured the seventh spot in the playoffs. This will be their first playoff appearance since 2016. The Fever currently has one Championship title that they earned in 2012.
Despite their 18-16 record, it is not surprising that the Fever secured a spot in this year’s playoffs. Clark displays excellent performances on both sides of the court, and it helps that her teammates are also able to contribute to the team’s success. Although Clark leads the league in assists, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston are the other two stat leaders for the Fever, Mitchell in points-per-game (19.0) and Boston in rebounds and blocks-per-game (9.0 REB/1.4 BLK). With her 13.4 points-per-game average, Boston is nearly averaging a double-double.
The Fever currently have a five-game win streak (2 home, 3 away), and are 9-1 in their last home games.
Their next game will be played at the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, September 6 at 7:30 PM.
